Nigerian judokas continued their
downward plunge in the International Judo Federation rankings due to
their non participation in international tournaments since the start of
the year.
In the October rankings released last week by the IJF, only two Nigerians made their way into the ranking list – Augustine Esther and Solomon Eniafe both ranked 77 and 170 in the women’s -63kg and men’s -66kg classes respectively.
Although she had moved six places downwards from the position she occupied in the last rankings released by the IJF, Augustine still had the 100 points, which she had garnered since the 2013 African Judo Championships where she won a medal, to retain a place in the standings.
It was the same for Solomon, who plummeted six places down, with the same number of points, 40, which he had also had since the 2013 AJC.
Nigerians were absent in the other weight categories which they had appeared in the previous rankings.
Meanwhile, African’s highest ranked judoka Jaballah Faicel of Tunisia, who has lost his top spot to Brazil’s Silva Rafael in the last rankings, is now the world’s fourth best with 1954 points in the +100kg weight class.
Silva continues his stay at the top of the +100kg rankings with 2540 points. The Brazilian was followed by Riner Teddy of France and Okruashvili Adam of Georgia with 2200 and 2021 points respectively.
