2015: NAF To Airlift Materials For INEC


The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, ahead of the 2015 general elections,  said it was prepared to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in airlifting men and materials to riverine communities of the Niger-Delta region.

The NAF also assured Nigerians that they would work in collaboration with the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta and other security agencies to provide adequate security during the elections.
Air Officer Commanding, Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal Umar Omeiza made the pledge yesterday paid a familiarisation visit to JTF Commander, Maj-Gen. Emmanuel Atewe at the JTF headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.
Air Vice Marshal Omeiza, who was newly posted to the command, said his visit was to familiarise himself with the JTF and that the Mobility Command was fully prepared to assist JTF in its fight against oil theft.
Meanwhile, JTF, also known as Operation Pulo Shield, OPS said it has declared war against oil thieves in the region.
JTF Commander, Gen. Atewe, also assured that OPS is winning the war, and that it had intensified its fight against illegal oil and gas activities in the creeks of the region.
Atewe further revealed that the JTF had successfully carried out routine operations in the creeks of the oil-rich region which resulted in the recent arrests and seizures of over 22 illegal oil vessels in Eleme area of Rivers State.
The JTF boss also said the operation led to the destruction of many oil tankers belonging to unauthorised oil dealers on the waterways.
