Aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State
contesting the 2015 elections have advised the party’s national leaders
to abide strictly by its constitution in admitting defected members into
 its fold.
One of the aspirants, Mr. Tolu Babaleye gave the advice in Akure, the state capital, while addressing party’s supporters.
Mr. Babaleye said the defection crisis rocking the PDP in the state
was not properly managed between members adding that it has caused a
‘crack wall’ in the relatively peaceful party.
He disclosed that the constitution stipulated that whoever wants to
join or defect to the party should join at the ward level and must be
issued with the party card duly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of
the ward.
The party aspirant also noted that all these processes must be done
within 30 days before the congress of the party, saying the party
register has been closed before Mimiko and his supporters joined the
party.
He revealed that all the aspirants embraced the defection of
governor Olusegun Mimiko from the LP to the PDP but the crisis it
generated aftermath was disheartened adding that it was not in
accordance with the party’s constitution.
According to him, if the state chapter of the party would embrace
peace, then the defection of Mimiko would add value to the party.
Mr. Babaleye said the members of the party would always recognize
its executive in the state and expresses support for the dissolution of
the State Working Committee (SWC).
