Ekiti State PDP stakeholders reject congress results

FOLLOWING alleged manipulation of the delegates’ lists for Saturday’s congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, stakeholders in the party, led by Senator Ayo Arise and other aggrieved aspirants, have rejected the results of congresses in the state.

Arise, who addressed newsmen in Oye-Ekiti on behalf of other aspirants in Ekiti North senatorial district, alleged that Governor Ayodele Fayose and the PDP congress panel, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, did not distribute electoral materials to any of the five local government areas in the district.
Arise, who called for a new congress, said he would officially lodge his complains before the PDP Congress Appeal Panel.
Other aggrieved House of Representatives aspirants, who rejected the results included: a former federal lawmaker, Mr Wale Aribisala; a former Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Patrick Ajigbolamu; former Ikole council boss, Mr Wole Ayeni and Mr Ayo Ogunsakin.
Describing Arise’s allegations as a ranting of a bad loser, Fayose in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, absolved the governor of imposing any candidate, saying all the aspirants were given a level play ground, particularly the assembly aspirants.
Fayose said: “the party was equally given free hand to determine the delegates. Evidence is there to prove that the leaders decided this to avoid rancor.
“The allegations by Senator Arise emanated from a sinking heart. Normally, a loser in African setting will never accept defeat but will engage in name calling in an attempt to rubbish a credible process,” he declared.
Lending credence to Fayose’s position, the PDP Acting Chairman, Mr Taelolu Otitoju, who said he has not received any official complain from Arise, advised any aggrieved member to forward their grievances to the appeal panel that is already on ground to tackle issues emanating from the Saturday’s congress.
